Ro Yassin Abdumonab

A Rohingya photojournalist, storyteller, and humanitarian using visual storytelling to document his community and amplify voices that deserve to be heard.

His Story

The journey From Teacher to Visual Storyteller

I began my career as a teacher in Myanmar. In August 2017, escalating violence forced me to flee to Bangladesh. After finding refuge in the camps, I began working as a fixer and interpreter for international journalists.

That experience introduced me to the power of journalism and visual storytelling. Inspired by the journalists and photographers I worked alongside, I picked up a camera and began documenting the life, struggles, resilience, and humanity of my own community.

His Mission

A CAMERA AS A CONDUIT

Preserving Our History Through Our Own Perspective

My camera is a conduit for preserving the history of my people. I believe that powerful stories do not depend only on expensive equipment. What matters is the effort, imagination, and purpose behind the image.

“Make the best photos with whatever devices you have. What matters is your effort and imagination to tell impactful stories.”
